After removal of SPG cover, CRPF takes helm of security for Gandhis

New Delhi/IBNS : After the Centre withdrew SPG cover for the Gandhi family, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), which has a special VVIP security unit, is now providing security to UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and her two children-Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.

According to media reports, the CRPF has sent a contingent of commandos with Israeli X-95, AK series and MP-5 guns to take charge of the security of these VVIPs.

The decision to remove SPG cover was taken after multiple security agencies carried out a threat perception assessment and found there was no direct threat to them, media reports said.

The Gandhis are now getting Z-plus security.

The SPG cover is considered as the highest tier of security in the country.

Sources close to the Gandhis told NDTV that they have not been informed.

After removing the cover for Gandhi, the elite force of 3,000 SP, will now only protect Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
