Ahead of Indo-US 2+2 dialogues, Pompeo hosts Jaishankar at a meet
Washington/UNI: The US State Department on Wednesday hosted the second Indo-US 2-Plus-2 dialogue here between Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Secretary of Defence Mark Esper with their Indian counterparts S Jaishankar and Rajnath Singh.
The meeting would underscore high priority the Trump administration places on a strong US-India relationship, the state department has said.
Earlier, Jaishankar met Pompeo here on Wednesday.
The dialogue happening for the second time since September 2018 will address ways to further accelerate and deepen the cooperation.
The inaugural India-US 2+2 Ministerial Dialogue was held in New Delhi on Sept 6, 2018 in the presence of the then External Affairs Minister Late Sushma Swaraj and Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, now heading the Finance ministry in India.
On the other hand, James Mattis was the US Secretary of Defence.
A number of defence and strategically related non-defence pacts are expected to be inked at the end of second 2-Plus-2 Ministerial meeting.
The two nations are expected to announce the signing of the Industrial Security Annex, an enabling pact that will allow American manufacturers of defense equipment to work with Indian private sector companies.
Notably, the 2+2 Dialogue comes after a record four meetings between PM Narendra Modi and President Donald Trump this year, including the historic joint address by both at Houston.
