Akhilesh Yadav's aides raided by IT department ahead of UP Elections 2022

Lucknow/IBNS: Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Akhilesh Yadav's two key aides have been raided by the Income Tax (IT) department, a few weeks ahead of the crucial assembly polls in the state.

SP spokesperson Rajeev Rai's home was raided by a team of IT department which came from Uttar Pradesh's Mau district.

As per reports, Rai owns a group which runs several educational institutions in Karnataka.

Manoj Yadav, another aide of Akhilesh Yadav, was raided in Mainpur, a stronghold of the former Chief Minister's family.

He is reportedly the promoter of a group of companies, RCL group.

Uttar Pradesh, which was swept by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the 2017 assembly elections, will go to polls early 2022.

With the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and Congress struggling to stay relevant in the state politics, Yadav's SP has emerged as the prime challenger to the BJP, which is spearheaded by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
