Amid protests, PM Narendra Modi starts his Kolkata visit

Kolkata/IBNS: Amid protests going on across Kolkata against the newly passed citizenship law by the Centre, Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in the city on Saturday.

After reaching Kolkata airport, he reached Race Course area in the city centre by a chopper. He reached Raj Bhawan from Race Course.

According to media reports, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee will welcome him in Raj Bhawan. The meeting between the two leaders is expected to take place there.

In the Kolkata airport, West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar, Kolkata Mayor Firhad Hakim and BJP leader Dilip Ghosh welcomed Modi.

Meanwhile, protests against the amended citizenship law is taking place in different parts fo the city including Hastings More and Dum Dum.

Protesters could be seen shouting slogans against the Citizenship Amendment Act and the proposed National Register of Citizens (NRC).

They were heard shouting slogans like “Go Back, Modi.”

Modi is expected to participate in various events during his two-day stay in Kolkata.
