Army sources confirmed the deceased jawan as Sahib Singh. Another jawan is critically injured. He has been shifted to hospital.

An Army spokesperson said, "The operation is still in progress and further details are awaited.

The incident comes within a couple of days after tension along the 200-km stretch of International border (IB) and Line of Control (LoC) between India and Pakistan somewhat eased after nine days of severe firing and shelling between the two armies that left 9 civilians dead and over 60 injured in Jammu & Kashmir.

On that context, Defence Minister Arun Jaitley has quipped that Pakistan’s violation of ceasefire along the border was a cover-up to let the insurgents slip into India.

He also said that about 700 terrorists are waiting just outside the LoC waiting to infiltrate into India.
