Army's Northern Command celebrates EME Day

Udhampur, Oct 15 (IBNS): The 72nd Anniversary of the Corps of Electronics and Mechanical Engineers was celebrated all over the Northern Command with great fervour and enthusiasm.
Senior Officers of the Corps laid a wreath at Dhurva War Memorial on behalf of EME fraternity to pay respect to the martyrs on the occasion.

The Corps was raised as Indian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers in May 1943. Post independence the Corps was renamed as Corps of Electrical and Mechanical Engineers. Subsequently, the Corps was rechristened as Corps of Electronics and Mechanical Engineers on 01 Jan 2001.

Lt Gen DS Hooda, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, (Army Commander) Northern Command  complimented all ranks of the Corps of EME for their dedication, high degree of professionalism and flexibility in  performing their duties in difficult and inhospitable terrain conditions in the Northern theatre.

The Corps has been proactive in delivery of engineering support as per operational requirements and has thus ensured an optimal level of equipment availability in the hands of troops.  Delivering beyond expectations in spheres of repair, recovery and maintenance, EME in Northern Command has carved a special niche for itself in the field of counter remote control IED equipment, bullet proofing of vehicles and major repairs to specialist equipment

The 3 Advance Base Workshop, the captive industrial facility of Northern Command, undertakes major repairs and recapitalization of warlike equipment and a host of projects to meet the urgent needs of the field army. The Corps has contributed immensely during natural calamities and disasters. During the floods which ravaged the state of J&K last year, the contribution of personnel of the corps of EME in providing relief to affected population and repair cover to vehicles and equipment was commendable.

The ‘Eagles’ as these soldiers are proudly called, have excelled in all fields including adventure and sports and have produced athletes of the highest repute.

The ‘Soldier Craftsman’ has toiled hard to sustain mission critical weapons and equipment in spite of the challenges posed by the weather in Northern Command zone  has ensured that these are kept operational at all times. The spirit of EME is reflected in their motto of “KARAM HI DHARAM’
