Arunachal Pradesh: Assam Rifles nab 4 NSCN militants, bust hideout of Naga militants
The troops of Assam Rifles under the aegis of DAO Division have been carrying out massive operations in different places in Arunachal Pradesh and apprehended two hardcore militants of NSCN(IM), two militants of NSCN(K) and busted a NSCN(R) hideout on Sunday and Monday.
Kohima based Defence PRO Colonel Chiranjeet Konwar said that, following intelligence input, the Khonsa battalion of Assam Rifles launched operation at Bera village and apprehended two NSCN (IM) militants.
The nabbed militants were identified as Self Styled Private Nali Nyamtey and Self Styled Private Rangmo Thakte and security personnel have recovered a pistol, live ammunition, extortion notes, extortion money amounting to Rs 25,000 and other incriminating evidences in possession from them.
The nabbed NSCN (IM) militants are residents of Laju circle in Tirap district.
In a similar operation launched by the Jairampur battalion and Jagun police based on specific intelligence about presence of militants trying to terrorize and carryout extortion at Phulbari village, the security personnel apprehended two NSCN (K) militants identified as Self Styled Rajapio Chankap Mossang and Wangnong Ranrang with extortion letters and other incriminating evidence while serving extortion demand from the area.
In another operation launched based on specific intelligence about presence of NSCN(R) cadres trying to terrorize and attempting extortion in Miao, the troops of Jairampur battalion launched operation at the area in the early hours of Monday.
“However using cover of darkness and foliage the militants were able to escape, in subsequent search during the day the column found the hideout consisting of temporary hutments. The militants had been using this hideout as adhoc base for operations for terrorizing and carrying out extortion in the neighboring villages. The destruction of hideout has resulted in the Under Grounds going on the run and rendered them defunct,” the Defence PRO said.
Security forces has been carrying out aggressive operations in the South Arunachal Pradesh and this apprehension has struck a blow to the extortion activities being carried out by the militants of the group in the area.
