Assam CM asks police, security forces to intensify ops against militants

Guwahati, Aug 6 (IBNS): Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Saturday asked the police and security forces to intensify operation against insurgent groups in the state.

Sonowal said that the government would come down heavily on the terrorists and insurgent outfits out to create law and order problem in the state.

“Ours is a zero tolerance approach towards terrorism. And our government is fully committed to ensuring the protection to life and property of the people,” Sonowal said.
        
With a view to bolstering security in trouble torn Kokrajhar, four companies of para-military forces have been deployed.

The Assam CM who will visit Kokrajhar to take stock of the law and order situation in view of yesterday’s violent incident which claimed the lives of 14 civilians and injury to 18 – a terrorist was also gunned down in the encounter – will hold a high level strategy group meeting with senior officials of Assam Police, Army and para-military forces at Kokrajhar Circuit House on Sunday.
