Assam Congress rebel leader Himanta Biswa Sarma will join BJP on Aug 28

Guwahati, Aug 24 (IBNS) : Rebel Congress leader Himanta Biswa Sarma is all set to join Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Aug 28 in Guwahati.

The dissident leader of Assam Congress and former Health and Education minister of Tarun Gogoi led-Assam government on Sunday had met BJP’s national president Amit Shah at the his residence in New Delhi and expressed his desire to join the saffron party.

A top leader of Assam BJP unit said that  along with few Congress MLA’s Himanta Biswa Sarma will formally join the party on Aug 28 in Guwahati in presence of Union minister Sarbananda Sonowal and state BJP unit president Siddartha Bhattacharya.

Himanta Biswa Sarma, the present MLA of Jalukbari assembly constituency said that he has already sent his resignation letter to AICC.

“I am hopeful about bringing Assam out of its current crisis under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership. The present situation in the state is not good. The financial position of the state is very bad,” Himanta Biswa Sarma said.

He said the present Tarun Gogoi- led government will leave an empty coffer to the next government.

Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Monday said that the Congress party will not damage for a particular man.

“Himanta Biswa Sarma is not an ideological politician. If he quit the party and join in other party, then Congress will not effect,” Gogoi said in a press conference held in Guwahati.

In other hand, Himanta Biswa Sarma had expressed his gratitude to Amit Shah for giving his the privilege to join the party.
