Assam: Four of a family detained for allegedly throwing elderly man into river

Guwahati, Oct 8 (IBNS): In a shocking incident, a 62-year-old man was allegedly thrown into a river by his family members with his hands and feet tied in Assam.

The incident took place at Barangabari of Badhakara Majgaon area in Assam’s Lakhimpur district on Tuesday morning.

Police have detained four of the same family in connection with the incident.

According to the reports, the elderly man was allegedly thrown into the river by his family members with his hands and feet tied following a family dispute.

Later, locals and police recovered the body of the man identified as Pawan Saikia from the river.

Police have detained the deceased person’s son Dilip Saikia, daughter-in-law Pinky Saikia Dhandiya, granddaughter Munkon Saikia and wife Dharmeswari Saikia.

Locals said that a family dispute was going on in the family for a long time.

A police officer said: “We have found the man in the river with his hands and feet tied. We recovered the body from the river with the help of locals. We suspected upon the family members and detained his son, daughter-in-law, granddaughter and wife for interrogation. Our investigation is going on.”
