Guwahati/IBNS: Assam Health Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday said the state government is considering to start a permit system for those who have to enter the state from outside after lockdown.

Addressing a press conference held in Guwahati, the Assam Health minister said many people from Assam, who are still stuck outside of the state, will come back to Assam when the Coronavirus lockdown will be withdrawn.

“It will be very difficult for us, if 50,000 people will return to the state in a single day. We have not enough quarantine facility for such huge people. So, the state government is considering to start a permit system for those who have to enter the state after lockdown ends. We have to permit them to enter the state in a systematic way. We want to regulate the inflow of the people to the state. For temporary purpose, we may require an Inner Line Permit kind of system even for the permanent resident of Assam,” Himanta Biswa Sarma said.

The Assam minister said the state government will launch a website for it from Apr 8 or Apr 9 where the people who have to enter the state will have to register there.

Himanta Biswa Sarma also appealed the people of the state to give their suggestions for it.

Currently in four North Eastern states – Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Mizoram and Manipur, where the outsiders need an Inner Line Permit to visit.
