Assam govt initiates probe following CRPF IG's fake encounter allegations

Guwahati, May 24 (IBNS): The Assam government has initiated a probe into the incident at Simaluguri in BTAD’s Chirang district on March 30 following the statement made by CRPF IG (NES) Rajnish Rai.

The CRPF IG alleged that, two NDFB (S) militants were killed by the security personnel in fake encounter and the recovered arms-ammunition was planted.

Following the allegations made the IPS office of Gujarat cadre, Assam police DGP has directed BTAD IGP Anurag Agarwal to conduct an enquiry and submit a factual report.

On the other hand, the District Magistrate Chirang also ordered Jayanta Sarkar, SDM Chirang to conduct a detailed magisterial inquiry as required under NHRC guidelines in force as per order.

The CPRO of Assam police said in a press note that, the state government views the matter very seriously and is committed to take appropriate action on receipt of the magisterial enquiry report and report of the Assam DGP.
