Assam, Nagaland governor take additional charges of Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh

Guwahati, Jan 28 (IBNS) : Assam governor Banwarilal Purohit on Saturday took oath as the Governor of Meghalya, when the Chief Justice of the High Court of Meghalaya Justice Dinesh Maheshwari administered the oath of office to him at a solemn function held at Raj Bhavan in Shillong.

It may be noted that Assam Governor Banwarilal Purohit was given an additional charge of Meghalaya following the resignation of V. Shanmuganathan yesterday.

The President of India through a warrant at Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi, has appointed Assam Governor to discharge the functions of the Governor of Meghalaya.

The charge of Meghalaya will be in addition to his present charge as the Governor of Assam.

On the other hand, the Governor of Nagaland Padmanabha Balakrishna Acharya has been sworn-in as the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh in the Darbar Hall of Raj Bhavan, Itanagar on Saturday.

The Governor of Nagaland Shri Acharya has been given the additional charge of Governor of Arunachal Pradesh.

Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court Justice Ajit Singh administered the oath of office.

Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu, Cabinet Ministers, members of State Legislative Assembly, Chief Secretary in-charge Satya Gopal, Principal Secretary Home, senior officers, public leaders, special invitees and distinguished guests also attended the function.

The swearing-in ceremony was followed by State Guard of Honour presented by Arunachal Pradesh Police at Raj Bhavan, Itanagar.
