Assam : Police rearrest Jignesh Mevani right after court granted him bail

Guwahati: Police of Assam’s Barpeta district rearrested Gujarat MLA Jignesh Mevani right after granting bail by a local court of Kokrajhar district.

According to the reports, a team of Barpeta district police had rearrested Jignesh outside of Kokrajhar district jail in connection with a case registered at Barpeta police station right after a local court of Kokrajhar granted him bail in connection with the case number 183/2022 registered at Kokrajhar police station.

Barpeta police have arrested Jignesh in connection with a case (no –81/2022) registered at Barpeta police station.

He will be produced before a court in Barpeta tomorrow. We will also file a bail petition before the court,” Angshuman Bora, lawyer of Jignesh Mevani said.

The Gujarat legislator was first arrested on Wednesday night in connection with an ‘objectionable’ comment against the Prime Minister which he made through a tweet on April 18.
