Guwahati, Oct 9 (IBNS) : A postmaster of Assam’s Biswanath district was suspended for allegedly withdrawing Rs. 50,000 by using a forged passbook.

According to the reports, the postmaster of Milanpur post office branch under Gohpur subdivision allegedly used a fake passport in the nae of a woman.

Report said that, a married woman, named Bibari Basumutary met the postmaster, identified as Hemen Hazarika last year and urged him to help her to open a  fixed deposit account. She handed over to him  Rs 50,000 in cash.

When the woman again went to the post office last month to know about her fixed deposit amount, she came to know that  no money was deposited against her name and the passbook given by the postmaster was a fake one.

She immediately odged a complaint with the higher authorities against the postmaster.

“When the man was found guilty, he was suspended with immediate effect,” a top official of Assam postal circle said.

Hazarika has also been asked to return the amount to the woman, the official said.
