Assam rebel Congress leader Himanta Biswa Sarma joins BJP

Guwahati, Aug 28 (IBNS): Rebel Congress leader Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday joined Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Guwahati.
In a function held in Guwahati, the former Health and Education minister of Tarun Gogoi led Assam government and present MLA of Jalukbari constituency had joined the saffron party in presence of the party national secretary Mahendra Singh, state unit president Siddartha Bhattacharya and other top leaders.
 
Thousands of BJP workers and supporters had welcomed the former Congress leader at Borjhar airport when he arrived around 11 am.
 
At least 10 Congress MLA’s also present in Borjhar airport during the welcome function.
 
After joining, Himanta Biswa Sarma said in a press conference that, BJP will in power in Assam in 2016.
 
“Congress is past and its politics also past. People of the state want change and it will happen in next assembly poll,” Sarma said.
 
Attacking the Congress, Himanta said that, Congress has played communal politics and the people of the state have not allowed any communal politics.
 
On other hand, Assam congress had celebrated “Ullas Divas” across the state for getting rid of Himanta Biswa Sarma, who joined BJP.
