Assam to get three new medical colleges
Guwahati, Dec 19 (IBNS): Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday said that Assam will get three more medical colleges with 100 seat capacity of each college.
The Assam minister said that, at present there are six medical colleges in the state and construction works of four other medical colleges are going on.
“The state will get three new medical colleges in Nalbari, Tinsukia and Kokrajhar and Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal is scheduled to lay foundation stones of these medical colleges in Kokrajhar, Nalbari and Tinsukia on January 6, 7 and 9 respectively,” Himanta said.
The estimated cost for Nalbari medical college is Rs 398.31 crore and for Kokrajhar and Tinsukia medical colleges are Rs 382.70 crore and Rs 404.63 crore respectively.
“Each medical college will have bed capacity of 500 and it will be completed in next three years,” Himanta said.
The Assam health minister further said that, four other medical colleges in Dhubri, lakhimpur, Nagaon and Diphu are under construction and each medical college will have 100 seat capacity.
“74 percent construction works have been completed in Diphu medical college, while 54 percent completed in Lakhimpur medical college, 50.94 percent completed in Nagaon medical college and 38 percent completed in Dhubri medical college. These medical colleges will start functioning from 2020-21 and each medical college will have bed capacity of 500,” Himanta Biswa Sarma said.
After completion of all medical colleges, Assam will have a total of 1426 seats for medical education.
