Srinagar, Feb 11 (IBNS): A local was killed on Wednesday when an avalanche swept away a group in the higher reaches of tourist resort Gulmarg in North Kashmir's Baramulla district.
In the afternoon,  an avalanche triggered by fresh snowfall from the higher reaches of Kongdori Gulmarg swept away a group of people, official said.

"So far we have recovered one dead body that was buried under snow and operation to locate the missing persons is going on in a big way," he said.

Meanwhile, a senior police official of the area told IBNS  that he can't tell with authority how many persons have gone missing.

"Avalanche Rescue Teams located at Gulmarg immediately commenced the search and rescue operation," he said.

On Jan 24, a Swiss national died and five of his associates had to be rescued when an avalanche hit the resort between Kongdoori and Afferwath.
