New Delhi, Nov 8 (UNI) It is 'testing time' for the nation, said Shahi Imam of Jama Masjid Syed Ahmed Bukhari in reference to the Ayodhya verdict that is expected to be delivered on or by November 17 by the Supreme Court.

"I hope that the constitutional superiority shall prevail and the rule of law is not compromised. It is testing time for the nation," Shahi Imam said in a statement here on Friday.

Mr Bukhari said: "In the context of the incoming verdict of the Supreme Court on the title suit of Babri Masjid, I am closely watching the statements made by different quarters".

He also said he is keeping an eye on the 'fringe elements' and above all the attitude of the government.

Syed Bukhari maintained: "Though passions on both sides are running high, but I would urge the Indian conscience to exercise restraint and demonstrate faith in the judiciary".

BJP and RSS leaders have reached out to the minority community leaders to ensure that there is peace and calm when the verdict on the dispute could be delivered.
