Bangladeshis voting in India don't need to apply for citizenship: Mamata Banerjee
Kaliganj(West Bengal)/IBNS: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said on Tuesday people who arrived in India from Bangladesh and have been voting in elections are Indian citizens and do not require to apply for citizenship anymore, media reports said.
Addressing a public rally, the Chief Minister criticised the Narendra Modi-led Centre for its handling of Delhi riots which has claimed 47 lives so far and asserted that she will not let violence take over West Bengal.
Banerjee said those who have come from Bangladesh are citizens of India. They already have citizenship of India. They don't need to apply for citizenship afresh.
She pointed out that such people are electing Prime Ministers and Chief Ministers in India and now they(BJP government) is saying that the immigrants are not citizens of India.
Banerjee said she will not let a single refugee be driven out of Bengal and asserted that each of them will be granted citizenship.
Slamming the central government, she said it must remember that West Bengal is not Delhi and it will not be turned in another Uttar Pradesh or Delhi.
