Bengal CID quizzes BJP MP in TMC MLA murder case

Kolkata/IBNS: West Bengal Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Saturday interrogated BJP Lok Sabha MP from Ranaghat constituency, Jagannath Sarkar, in connection with its ongoing probe into TMC MLA Satyajit Biswas murder case, officials said.

According to reports, the senior BJP leader was grilled for nearly four hours at CID headquarters at Bhabani Bhavan in Kolkata.

Earlier on Jan 24, while hearing an anticipatory bail plea filed by Jagannath Sarkar, a division bench of the Calcutta High Court had given an interim protection to the BJP MP from arrest till Feb 28 and directed him to cooperate the investigating agency with the probe.

After the four-hour-long interrogation was over, BJP MP Jagannath Sarkar told IBNS, "CID officials asked me few questions in connection with the murder case and I replied to them properly."

"Following the honourable Calcutta High Court's order, I faced the interrogation today to cooperate with the investigation, though, I believe quizzing me in connection with this murder case is a part of TMC's vendetta politics," Sarkar said.

In February last year, TMC MLA from Krishnaganj assembly constituency in Nadia district, Satyajit Biswas, was shot dead during a cultural programme near his home and his family had lodged complaint naming 43 accused persons, including BJP leaders Mukul Roy and Jagannath Sarkar.
