Kolkata/IBNS: Weeks ahead of the West Bengal assembly polls, the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Tuesday removed senior IPS officer Virendra as the Director-General of Police (DGP) of the state, reports said.

According to reports, the commission has appointed 1987-batch IPS officer, P. Nirajnayan, as the new DG and IGP of West Bengal with an immediate effect.

The Commission stated that after reviewing the situation of poll preparedness in Bengal, the transfer was made.

In the transfer order, the ECI has clearly mentioned that IPS Virendra should not be given any post which directly or indirectly relates to the conduct of election.
