Bengal polls: Final phase of polling underway

Kolkata, May 5 (IBNS) Voting in the last phase of polling for the West Bengal Assembly elections is currently underway on Thursday.

More than 58 lakh people are eligible for voting  at 6,774 polling stations across 25 constituencies in East Midnapore and Cooch Behar districts.

In this phase, polling will take place at nine constituencies in Cooch Behar district and 16 in East Midnapore.

Around 9,776 people, who are part of the enclave, have been registerd as voters. They are expected to exercise their franchise.

Security has been tightened across the two districts for polling.

361 companies of central forces assisted by a contingent of 12,000 state police personnel have been deployed in the districts.

The fight is between the TMC and Cong-Left alliance.

Voting started at 7 am and will continue till 6 pm.

Counting of votes will take place on May 19.
