Bengali actor-turned-politician Tapas Pal dies
New Delhi/Mumbai/Kolkata/UNI/IBNS: Bengali movie actor-turned-politician Tapas Pal, who worked in several memorable Tollywood movies, passed away at a private hospital in Mumbai in the early hours of Tuesday following a massive cardiac arrest.
He was 61.
Reports reaching the national capital said the actor, who went to Mumbai recently, was admitted at a hospital in Bandra on January 28, 2020, as he was suffering from nerve problem, reported UNI.
The end came at 03.35 hours, the report said.
Family sources told UNI that the condition of late Pal had deteriorated in the hospital on Feb 1 and he was put on ventilation since then.
He was an MLA from Alipore for two terms (2001-2006, 2006-2009).
The actor was also elected to Parliament from the Krishnanagar Lok Sabha constituency in the 2009 and 2014 parliamentary elections on a Trinamool Congress ticket.
Dadar Kirti, Bhalobasa Bhalobasa, Parabatpriya and Saheb were among the major Tollywood films in which Pal acted.
He had also acted in a Bollywood film-Abodh starring with Madhuri Dixit.
A pall of gloom descended on the film fraternity and also in the political circle hearing the demise of Pal.

Controversies:
Rape Remark:
Triggering a controversy, Tapas Pal was once caught on camera threatening to kill Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) workers and having their women raped. He made the remark while addressing a public gathering.
He later tendered an unconditional apology for the comments.
Rose Valley link and jail:
The former TMC MP was arrested by the CBI for his alleged link to Rose Valley Chit Fund scam in 2016. He was later released on bail after spending 13 months in prison.
