Bhopal, Apr 17 (IBNS): The Bharatiya Janata Party on Wednesday confirmed it has fielded  Malegaon blast accused Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur as its candidate for the Lok Sabha polls from Bhopal seat in Madhya Pradesh.

She will fight the polls against Congress leader Digvijaya Singh.

"Sadhvi is BJP's candidate from Bhopal," former Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan told reporters.

"She will now try to serve people by joining politics," he said.

Thakur on Wednesday visited Bhopal and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party.

She is likely to contest the Lok Sabha polls from Madhya Pradesh capital Bhopal. She is likely to be fielded against senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh in the seat.

"I am feeling very happy today. We will work together," she told media.

Speaking on the Malegaon blast case, she said: "I have got clean chit."

Meanwhile, Congress leader Digivijaya Singh, against whom BJP has fielded Thakur, welcomed her to Bhopal.

Twelve persons, including the Sadhvi and Purohit, were arrested for carrying out a blast at Malegaon, a predominantly Muslim town in north Maharashtra, on September 9, 2008. The blast killed six persons and injured 100.

The court earlier dropped provisions of the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) against Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur.

However, Sadhvi is being tried under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA), reports said.

She is currently out on bail.
