Bhopal: Shivraj Singh Chouhan orders 'high-level' probe after 3 children die in hospital fire

Bhopal/UNI: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has ordered a high-level probe after three children died in a hospital fire in Bhopal.

The deceased were admitted in the paediatric ward of government-run Kamala Nehru Hospital where a major fire broke out on Monday night.

Sharing his condolences, Chouhan termed the incident "unfortunate" and has ordered a high level probe in the incident, he informed via a series of Twitter posts.

"The fire inside the paediatric ward of the hospital is very tragic. Unfortunately, three children who were already admitted to the hospital in a serious condition could not be saved in the incident. The rescue operation was swift and the blaze is under control, but unfortunately the lives of three children could not be saved," the CM tweeted.

"A high-level probe into the incident has been ordered. The probe will be conducted by additional chief secretary (ACS) health and medical education, Mohammad Suleiman," he said in another tweet.

Chaos prevailed at the hospital here after the fire erupted at about 9 pm on Monday.

The ward, on the third floor, had about three-dozen patients – including infants – but the blaze was brought under control by Fire Brigade personnel. The kids were evacuated with assistance from hospital staff.

Chouhan had directed state Health Minister Vishvas Sarang to rush to the scene.

Villager Ramesh Dangi said that two infants of his family were in the ward and he tried to break the window panes to let out the smoke.
