Bihar Govt orders CBI probe in Sushant Singh Rajput's death case

Patna/IBNS: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has ordered a CBI probe into the death of Sushant Singh Rajput on Tuesday, soon after his father demanded for it over a phone call, said media reports.

"Since the family has given its consent, we are recommending a CBI probe on the FIR which was lodged in Bihar," Nitish Kumar was quoted as saying by NDTV.

Earlier, Maharashtra government had said it is not in the favour of a CBI inquiry with Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray ruling it out completely and his Home Minister saying "the probe is heading in the right direction".

Sushant Singh Rajput's father KK Singh called Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today in the morning and pressed for a CBI probe into the death of his son, a day after he accused Mumbai Police of taking no action over an FIR filed by him on Feb 25 fearing for the actor's life.

"On February 25, I informed Bandra Police the life of my son was in danger. He died June 14 and I asked them to act against people in my complaint. No action was taken even 40 days after. So I filed FIR in Patna and Patna Police swung into action," Singh was heard saying in a video shared by news agency ANI.

He also referred to actress Rhea Chakraborty, who was Sushant's girlfriend, as 'accused' and fleeing.

"But the accused is running away. Patna Police should be given help," he said, adding, "I thank Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and colleague, Sanjay Jha, who gave support to the truth in this hour of grief."

KK Singh spoke to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today in the morning and demanded a CBI probe into the death of his son.

Nitish Kumar ally LJP leader Chirag Paswan also spoke to Nitish Kumar in the morning over the issue. In a 10-minute chat he reiterated his demand for a CBI probe into Sushant's suicide case.

Paswan has been criticising Nitish Kumar over maintaining a low profile in the case involving a "bright, talented son of Bihar" like Sushant Singh Rajput.

In the one day Bihar Assembly session, a BJP MLA Neeraj Bablu - Sushant Singh's cousin raised demand for CBI inquiry into his death, alleging that his death was "murder". His demand was backed by leader of opposition in Bihar Assembly and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav.

Thirty four-year-old Sushant Singh Rajput was widely acclaimed and loved for his acting. After he committed suicide in his Bandra home on June 14, questions have been raised about the circumstances that forced him to take the extreme step.

Yesterday Mumbai Police said Sushant Singh Rajput was suffering from bipolar disorder and indirectly denied Bihar Police's claim that Rhea Chakraborty was escaping police interrogation.

"It has come to surface that he had bipolar disorder, he was undergoing treatment and taking medicines for it. What circumstances led to his death is the subject of our investigation," said Param Bir Singh, Mumbai Commissioner of Police, media reported.

On Rhea Chakraborty's whereabouts, he said, "Her statement was recorded twice and she was called to the police station several times. I can't comment about her whereabouts."

The top Mumbai cop also said Sushant had Rs 18 crore in his account, of which Rs 4.5 crore are still present, and there is no evidence of direct transfer of the money to Rhea's account, but police are investigating this aspect of the case. .

Sushant's father KK singh had accused Rhea of siphoning of Rs 14 crore from his account in an FIR lodged in Rajeev nagar Police station in Patna, along with the charge of 'abetment to suicide'.

A four-member Bihar Police team is in Mumbai to investigate these charges, but, according to reports, the cops are facing some resistance from Mumbai Police. The turf war intensified after an IPS officer from Bihar was forced by the civic body of the city to go under quarantine, citing Covid protocols laid by the government for inter-state travellers.

Asserting that the Mumbai Police was pursuing the suicide case with proactively, the Mumbai Commissioner said, "Till now statements of 56 people have been recorded, all angles are being investigated be it a professional rivalry, financial transactions or health. We have taken his laptop and phone as technical evidence, we will look into everything."
