Bihar makes 55% hike in power tariff ahead of summer

| | Mar 25, 2017, at 12:25 am
Patna, Mar 24 (TheBiharPost/IBNS): In a huge setback to power consumers, the Bihar Electricity Regulatory Commission (BERC) has increased the power tariff by 55 percent, media reports said today.

This is the biggest ever increase of power tariff in Bihar. The new tariff will come into effect from April 1, 2017.

For the past some time, the BERC had been taking about increasing the power traffic but none had expected the increase will be so steep.

“We were suggested for making 75 percent hike to make up loss of revenues but after studying power rates of various states, we ultimately decided to hike it by 55 percent,” Commission chairman SK Negi was quoted as telling a local TV News channel today.
