BJP demands re-polling in West Bengal's Barrackpore constituency, accuses TMC of rigging

New Delhi, May 6 (IBNS): Accusing the Trinamool Congress of rigging in the Barrackpore constituency of West Bengal, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has demanded a re-polling in all booths of the particular seat as the fifth phase of Lok Sabha polls is underway on Monday.

Addressing a press conference in the national capital, Union Minister and BJP leader Prakash Javadekar said: "Trinamool Congress and Mamata Banerjee are losing so they are resorting to violence. The Trinamool men are threatening people who are not voting for them."

"In several places, Trinamool goons are pressing buttons on EVM machines. So we are appealing for re-polling in Barrackpore," Javadekar added.

Violence in Barrackpore

BJP candidate from Barrackpore Arjun Singh on Monday allegedly engaged himself in a scuffle with the police during the polling in his constituency from the outskirts of Kolkata.

The incident reportedly occurred at a booth in Mohanpur area.

The incident occurred on a day when India is voting in the fifth phase of the Lok Sabha polls.

Singh was reportedly injured during the scuffle. He alleged that BJP polling agents were not allowed inside the booths, leading to a clash of sort.

Singh alleged that Trinamool Congress workers attacked him.

Singh, who switched over to the BJP from Mamata Banerjee's party, is contesting the poll against Trinamool contestant Dinesh Trivedi.

Similar incidents of violence were reported during the earlier four phases of the Lok Sabha polls in West Bengal.
