BJP leaders arrested in Bengal for trying to enter Makra village

Kolkata, Oct 30 (IBNS): Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders, including Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, were arrested in West Bengal’s Birbhum district for trying to enter a village despite prohibitory orders imposed in the region.

Besides Naqvi, the BJP's Central delegation included senior leaders such as Kirti Azad, Udit Raj and West Bengal's party unit President Rahul Sinha.

“The name TMC stands for terrorists, mafias and criminals. The entire country is worries about what the Trinamool Congress government is doing here in Bengal,” said Naqvi.

The BJP team allegedly tried to enter the troubled Makra village where clashes broke out last week between alleged supporters of the BJP and the state’s ruling Trinamool Congress. At least three people were killed and two severely injured in the violence.

The police did not allow the BJP, Congress and a Left Front teams to visit the village on Wednesday. A team of Left MLAs and MPs that was trying to enter had also been arrested.

“Even though the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M)-led Left Front is not in power in Bengal, their misrule still continues during the Trinamool regime. The Mamata banerjee government is following in the footsteps of its predecessor in terms of unleashing political violence in rural outskirts,” said Rahul Sinha, after being arrested by the police.
