BJP urges EC to withdraw FIR order against Modi

Two FIRs were filed against  Modi on Wednesday.

"The alleged incident is reported to have occured outside the following booth at Nishan School at Ranip (Gandhinagar, Gujarat) where Shri Modi is registered as a voter. The Hon'ble Commission apparently saw a TV Channel showing Shri Modi speaking to media outside the booth soon after he cast his vote inside the booth. He was seen waving his hand which was holding the Lotus Symbol, which he usually wears on his lapel,"  R. Ramakrishna, convenor of the BJP's election cell, said in the letter.

"Obviously he would have dislodged it from his lapel and holding in his hand while casting the vote, in deference to the norms of decorum and propriety, of not wearing an election symbol while voting, unlike the multitude of AAP followers who are allowed inside the booth wearing their party caps,"  he said.

"Based on the above submissions, we request the Hon'ble Commission to (i) review and withdraw the impugned orders in reference. Pending review and possible withdrawal of the orders, the Hon'ble Commission may kindly direct the Chief Secretary and DGP of the Gujarat Govt. to hold the earlier instructions in abeyance till further orders. and (ii) to enunciate, clear instructions / guidelines for the future, in regard to press meetings, interactions and sound bytes such that this does not continue to be a grey area," read the letter.

The party also asked the Commission to take action against Congess vice-president Rahul Gandhi for his election speech at Solan in in Himachal Pradesh.

"He is reported to have observed that 'if BJP comes to power 22000 people will be killed'. This is a threat of serious dimensions made by a highly placed Congress leader, which should not be taken lightly by the ECI. One is at a wit's end to comprehend how such an accurate figure has been arrived at by this contemporary Nostradamus," read another letter written by  R. Ramakrishna to the Commission.

"Judging by his past utterances during the Muzaffarnagar riots, there is a possibility that he has contacts with Intelligence Agencies who feed him with such forecasts. If so, the Nation has got a right to be informed of such a grim prospect. We would request the Hon'ble Election Commission to issue a notice to him, requesting him to share the information with them (since this observation has been made in the course of a campaign speech)," he said.

"If he is not able to convince the Commission about the veracity of the content of his speech, the Commission may like to suitably deal with him for a serious violation of the Model Code of Conduct which prohibits "unverified allegations or distortions" (Para 1-General Conduct--(2) of the Model Code of Conduct)," read the letter.
