Bomb attack a big conspiracy, likely remote-controlled explosion: Mamata Banerjee visiting Jakir Hossain at hospital

Kolkata/IBNS: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday morning visited state minister Jakir Hossain, who was seriously injured in a crude bomb attack at a railway station in Murshidabad last night, at SSKM hospital in Kolkata and indicated that there was a "big conspiracy".

"I should not talk more on the matter as it is under investigation, but I have understood that there was a big conspiracy and prima facie is indicating that the attack was pre-planned," Banerjee said.

"Jakir Hossain and nearly 26 others have been injured in the bombing and few of them have lost either legs or hands in the explosion," Banerjee added.

The West Bengal CM also hinted that the bomb might be triggered using wireless devices.

"Eye witnesses saying that the bomb was most probably triggered using a remote control, and it will be confirmed only after a proper investigation, and our Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has already initiated a probe into the matter," she said.

"The incident took place on a railway platform and I heard that no railway police officer was present during the attack," Banerjee added.

"Railway cannot avoid their responsibility and must not take the matter casually," the Chief Minister said.

Banerjee has also announced a compensation of Rs. 5 lakh each for those who have been seriously hurt and Rs. 1 lakh each to the minorly injured.

"Our government will bear all the treatment costs and will arrange artificial legs and hands for those who have lost those in the explosion," the CM said.

On Wednesday night, West Bengal Minister of State for Labour, Jakir Hossain, was seriously hurt in a crude bomb attack by unknown miscreants when he along with his followers was going to catch a Kolkata-bound train at Nimtita railway station's platform number two.

He was rushed to a local hospital in a very serious condition and later at midnight he was shifted to SSKM hospital in Kolkata.
