BSF jawan killed in firing by Border Guard Bangladesh at Bengal border

New Delhi, Oct 17 (UNI) A Border Security Force (BSF) personnel was killed while another got injured at Behrampore in West Bengal on Thursday morning during a fire by Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) on BSF team.

The BSF team went to trace a missing Indian fisherman apprehended by BGB, an official statement said here.

The personnel killed was identified as Vijay Bhan Singh, head constable BSF.

According to BSF, the BGB apprehended three Indian fishermen who had gone for fishing in river Padma.

The BGB later released two of them and asked them to call the BSF post commander for a flag meeting.

Around 10:30 AM, a Post Commander along with five troopers in the BSF boat, approached BGB patrol in the water channel of River Padma near Boundary Pillar.

During the Flag Meeting, the BGB patrol did not release the Indian fisherman and also tried to cordon (Gherao) BSF troops.

Sensing the situation, the BSF party immediately returned but BGB troops opened fire on the returning troop.

Vijay received bullet injuries on his head and the constable received bullet injuries on his right hand.

Both the injured BSF personnel were evacuated to the nearest medical facility but Vijay succumbed to injuries and declared brought dead.

The injured constable has been taken to Murshidabad Medical College and Hospital Behrampore, the BSF said in a statement.

BGB authorities have been contacted and senior BSF officials are on the spot, the statement said further.
