Srinagar, Dec 24 (IBNS): One person was killed and 24 were injured when a bus fell into a gorge, known as Khooni Nala, on Monday morning along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway in Ramban district, reports quoting police said.

“We have rescued 24 persons with injuries & 1 dead. We are evacuating seriously injured to Jammu via chopper. There were reportedly 35 persons travelling,” Hindustan Times quoted a government district official as saying.

Khooni Nala is so named because of the many road accidents and consequent deaths on this stretch, Hindustan Times said.

Reports said the bus was part of a convoy returning to Jammu from Budgam after the local body elections.

The injured are undergoing treatment at a local hospital.

Reported quoted a police officer saying trees stopped the bus from sliding further down into the gorge.
