Cabinet clears land ordinance, Rahul slams PM Modi

New Delhi, May 31 (IBNS): Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi has slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi as the Union Cabinet on Saturday recommended re-promulgation of controversial Land Acquisition Ordinance.
Gandhi said Modi is in "amazing hurry to grab land from poor farmers."

"Modi ji in an amazing hurry to grab land from poor farmers at any cost. A 3rd attempt at pushing the anti farmer Land Ordinance!," Gandhi tweeted.

He said that the Congress party will continue its fight for the farmers.

"Congress Party will continue to fight for the rights of the kisan and mazdoor against this #suitbootkisarkar," he said.

The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has given its approval to amend the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement (Amendment) Ordinance, 2015.

Changes in the provisions of the Act will facilitate farmers to get better compensation and rehabilitation and resettlement benefits in lieu ofland compulsorily acquired by the appropriate Government.

The government had promulgated ordinance twice on the bill since December after it faced continuous resistance especially in Rajya Sabha, where it does not have the numbers.

The Government had to bow to the opposition demand to  refer it to the Joint Parliamentary Committee.
