Cameraperson injured in Sabarimala clashes over entry of women
Sabarimala, Nov 6 (IBNS) :A video journalist was injured as clashes took place at the Nadapandal in Sabarimala on Tuesday morning following reports of a woman below 50 attempting to enter the temple, media reports said.
Hundreds of protesters gathered at Sannidhanam or the inner courtyard of the hilltop shrine and some targeted the media.
Protests turned violent over Lalitha, a devotee from Thrissur who had come to the temple with her son. The clashes stopped only after confirmation came about the woman being 52 years-above the barred age group between 10 and 50 years. The woman and her son were then escorted to the temple by the police.
As per reports, a local TV cameraman was injured in the protests.
The temple opened on Monday amid tight security for the second time, after the Supreme Court in September overturned the ban on entry of menstruating women into the shrine, for a two-day special puja amid heavy security cover over fear of protests.
No woman in the age group of 10-50 years has been able to visit the Sabarimala temple since the top court's order on September 28.
Another woman, in her 20s, was stopped yesterday when she tried to enter the Pamba base camp.
