Canada: Toronto Police arrest suspected killer of Indian student
Toronto/IBNS: The Toronto Police on Tuesday said a 39-year-old man, who is believed to be the key suspect in the killing of an Indian student Kartik Vasudev in Canada, has been arrested.
The suspect has been identified as Richard Jonathan Edwin.
He is accused of two separate "unprovoked" killings of 21-year-old Indian student Kartik Vasudev and another 35-year-old man from Toronto.
On Apr 7, around 5 p.m, Kartik Vasudev, a 21-year-old international student from India, was gunned down at Sherbourne subway station on his way to work at a Mexican restaurant.
An off duty paramedic found him lying with gunshot and tried to administer some first aid support.
He was rushed to St. Michel's Hospital where he was pronounced dead because of gunshot injuries.

Two days later, Elijah Eleazar Mahepath, a resident of Toronto, was shot near the intersection of Dundas Street East and George Street, east of Jarvis Street, just before 7 p.m.
Today at 11 a.m., in the Media Gallery of Toronto Police Headquarters, Chief of Police James Ramer joined by Staff Superintendent Lauren Pogue of Detective Operations and Detective Sergeant Terry Browne of Homicide, updated the media on arrests made in Homicides in two separate random attacks.
Police said Edwin had a cache of loaded guns within reach at the time of his arrest in a residence near Bloor Street West and Spadina Avenue on Sunday evening.
These murders are believed to be random attacks and the victims were not known to the accused or each other, police said.
Investigators are working to establish the full motive behind the attacks and these remain active investigations.
On Sunday’s vigil at Nathan Phillips Square, organized by Seneca College, where Kartik was a student of International Business, the President of the college David Agnew was present and he spoke about the seemingly “random” nature of the shooting.
“It is beyond comprehension for all of us. I can’t imagine, as a parent, the feelings of his parents right now, so many thousands of miles away,” he said. “I know that they will draw great comfort from seeing all of you here knowing that your thoughts and your prayers are with them as well as we seek answers to why this possibly could have happened.”
According to the latest update from Consulate General of Toronto, the dead body of the deceased Indian student Kartik Vasudev is currently lying on rest at Toronto basedLotus Funeral Home where they are going to organize a memorial service for Kartik .
Himadri, spokesperson from the funeral home, told IBNS that they are expecting the Consul General of India Toronto, Apoorva Srivastav, Mayor of Toronto, John Tory, among other dignitaries to attend the memorial service.
The CGI also asserted that they will provide every Consular services required for smooth transfer of the mortal remains of Kartik, issuance of No Objection Certificate for carrying the body back to India, registration of the death certificate and cancellation of the deceased passport.
The CGI also expressed its assurance to provide the flight expense to carry the mortal remains back to Delhi.
Kartik Vasudev is the city of Toronto's 19th homicide victim of 2022.
