CBI arrests Inspector of Income Tax Department

New Delhi, Mar 21 (IBNS) The Central Bureau of Investigation on Saturday said it has arrested an Inspector of Income Tax Department, Delhi for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs.90,000 from the complainant.

"A case was registered under section 7 of P.C.Act,1988 on a complaint alleging that the Inspector working in Ward- 56 (3) in Income Tax Department, Delhi has demanded a bribe of Rs. 2,50,000/- from complainant for settling the Income Tax Assessment of his client( Proprietor of a firm). Later on, the accused negotiated and demanded the bribe amount of Rs. 90,000/-. CBI laid a trap and  caught the accused while demanding & accepting the bribe of Rs. 90,000/- from the complainant," the CBI said in a statement.

"Searches were conducted in the office and residence of the accused which led to recovery of  incriminating documents relating to the case and investments in various movable & immovable properties," it said.

The arrested accused was produced before the Special Judge, CBI cases, Patiala House Courts, New Delhi and remanded to Judicial Custody for 14 days.

The investigation into the matter is in progress.
