Cheques distributed to beneficiaries under Meghalaya Piggery Mission

Shillong/IBNS: The Meghalaya Livestock Enterprises Advancement Society (M-LEADS) distributed cheques to selected Cooperatives Societies/IVCS drawn from different parts of the State under the Meghalaya Piggery Mission at a function held at the State Convention Centre, Shillong.

The Meghalaya Piggery Mission aims to make the state self-sufficient in pork production, improve incomes of over 25, 000 households, enhance food security, strengthen cooperative culture and credit extensions and improve the nutritional status of the State’s population.

Addressing the gathering through video conferencing, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, lauded and congratulated the efforts of all stakeholders in making the Meghalaya Piggery Mission a reality.

He stated that this project is very important and the government had been working on it for a year and a half.

Stating that a lot of revenue is going outside the state in purchasing pigs, the Meghalaya Chief Minister encouraged individuals, co-operatives societies and the community to come forward and avail the scheme of the Meghalaya Piggery Mission and thereby help in enhancing the economic condition of the people.

Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, during his address stated that this is a historic moment for the cooperative sector and hope that the financial assistance distributed today will serve as working capital for the beneficiaries.

Later, the Deputy Chief Minister handed over the cheques to the beneficiaries from all 11 districts of the state.

Others present during the function were G. H. P. Raju, Principal Secretary Cooperation, Dr Vijay Kumar D, Commissioner and Secretary Cooperation, W. A. M. Booth, Joint Secretary Cooperation and Chief Executive Officer, M-LEADS among others.
