'Choose truth over lies': P Chidambaram quotes Joe Biden in appeal to voters ahead of Bihar polls

New Delhi/IBNS: Senior Congress leader P. Chidambaram on Sunday quoted US Presidential candidate Joe Biden's election campaign speech to urge the voters of Bihar ahead of the Assembly polls to choose "hope over fear, unity over division... and truth over lies".

In a series of tweets, Chidambaram referred to Democratic nominee Joe Biden's campaign speeches as the latter contests against President Donald Trump in the Nov 3 US Presidential election, which is closely followed by the world.

The Congress leader wrote: "Mr Joe Biden, Democratic candidate in the US elections, said yesterday, 'We choose hope over fear, unity over division, science over fiction and yes, truth over lies'."

He said: "That's a good vow that the people of Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and elsewhere should take when they go to the polling booths this month."

Chidambaram also referred to the New Zealand general election where Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern's centre-Left government won in an unprecedented majority decision on Saturday to suggest that "decency and progressive values" can win elections.

"The election of Ms Jacinda Ardern as Prime Minister of New Zealand gives us hope that decency and progressive values can win elections in a democracy," he tweeted.

Amid the Covid-19 situation, elections will be held in Bihar between Oct 28 and Nov 7 in three phases. The results will be declared on Nov 10.

In the upcoming poll in the eastern state, the Congress is part of the mahagathbandhan-an opposition alliance led by the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD).

On the other hand, Nitish Kumar's JD(U) got 122 seats and would allot 7 seats from its quota to HAM while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) got 121 seats and it would spare some seats for VIP.
