Churches can decide on opening after lockdown: Varappuzha Latin Archdiocese

Kochi/UNI: The Churches can decide on whether to open the churches after the lockdown or not, Varappuzha Latin Archdiocese said on Sunday.

Some parishes have decided not to open the Churches in a hurry. The Churches can take a decision regarding this, the archdiocese said.

Over 15 persons should not be allowed to enter the Church on special occasions. A difference of opinion existed among various Churches regarding the opening of Churches after lockdown.

The major concern is whether priests aged above 65 years can enter the Churches. As most of the priests and bishops are above 65 years, this will create trouble.

Besides, there are concerns whether the rituals of Holy Mass can be completed adhering to the safety protocol.

The archdiocese directed that even if churches are opened, rituals should not be conducted with maximum participation.

The Jacobite Church decided to open Churches following the government instructions. Catholicos Baselios Thomas I stated in a circular that priests and devotees aged above 65 should not enter the churches.
