CISF Jawan opens fire; shoots one, injures another colleague at Kolkata's Indian Museum

Kolkata: A CISF jawan opened indiscriminate fire aiming at his colleagues inside CISF barrack at Indian Museum, Kolkata.

Sources said the jawan rained bullets from his AK47 service rifle around 630pm. One CISF ASI has been killed while a commandant-rank official has been injured in the shooting.

CISF ASI who was killed in the firing has been identified as Ranjit Sarangi. The injured para-military official has been identified as Subir Ghosh.

Both the injured and the deceased were taken to SSKM hospital.

A police team from Park St Police Station rushed to the spot where incident took place. Soon, Kolkata Police's commando force (special action team) also reached the scene.

The CISF jawan, who reportedly opened fire, at first managed to hide inside the barrack for some time but was later disarmed and taken into custody.

Kolkata Commissioner of Police Vineet Goyel and Jt  Commissioner of Police (Crime) also reached the spot.

Police Commissioner Goyel said around 15 rounds of bullets were fired. Investigation on.
