Civil disobedience in Kargil over Ladakh separation from Kashmir division
Srinagar, Feb 14 (IBNS): The Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Kargil, has called for a mass disobedience and asked all government offices not to follow work orders until the Jammu and Kashmir Governor reviews the decision to create a separate division for Ladakh, media reports said.
This comes in the wake of protests and keeping government offices shut against the decision to create a separate division for Ladakh with headquarters at Leh. The protesters have said they would not be part of the new division except in a situation where there is a six-month rotation of offices between Leh and Kargil.
A resolution passed by the LAHDC, Kargil says "establishing the headquarters of Ladakh division at Leh has hurt sentiments of the people of Kargil" and that it advocates the review and amendment of the government order and go for the Kargil-Leh rotational system.
The resolution is a serious challenge to the administration. Jammu and Kashmir is currently under President's Rule.
It says the LAHDC would organise a civil disobedience movement against the Governor's administration unless their demands were met.
All government departments have been closed for the past three days as part of the protest against the decision. The protesters did not allow the newly-appointed divisional commissioner of Ladakh into Kargil.
The decision to separate Ladakh from Kashmir division was taken shortly after Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Leh. The BJP had won from Ladakh in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls but the local MP resigned from the party last year.
