College girl near Srinagar attacked with acid

Srinagar, Dec 11 (IBNS) A 21-year-old Kashmir college girl from Allochibagh received burn injuries when two men threw acid on her face at Nowshera, Soura on the outskirts of Srinagar city Thursday, reports said .

Two persons on a vehicle attacked a B.A LLB student outside the college in Nowshera area of city and with acid.

Eyewitness told IBNS that the girl got burn injuries in her face and hands, adding that the persons after carrying out the attack fled from
the spot.

Soon the police reached  the spot and shifted the injured college girl to SKIMS Soura Institute from where she was shifted  to JVC Hospital Bemina for specialized treatment.

Doctors at Jhelum Valley College said they have started a special treatment to the acid victim. They said the girl has suffered injuries in eyes and hands.

Soon after the news spread in the college, scores of students took to streets and staged  protest demonstration against the attackers.

The protesters demanded action against the culprits.

A police official while confirming the incident said that it is premature to say whether the victim is known to the attacker or not.

Meanwhile police has launched a hunt to nab the assailants, they said.

On 2 Jan, 2013 a 30-year-old school teacher was attacked with acid in Parraypora locality of Hyderpora in Srinagar. The attacker identified as Riyaz Ahmad was later arrested by the police.
