New Delhi, Mar 31 (IBNS): Ahead of Karnataka assembly poll, the Congress has appointed its Maharashtra lawmaker Yashomati Thakur as the party secretary for the state, media reports said.

Congress general secretary Ashok Gehlot was quoted by The Indian Express, "She is being attached to AICC General Secretary I/c Karnataka K.C. Venugopal."

The poll in Karnataka will be held in a single phase on May 12. The counting of votes will take place on May 15.

Karnataka is one of the last few states where Congress has a strong hold.
