Congress demands house adjournment and budget postponement over Ahamed demise

New Delhi, Feb 1 (IBNS): Before Indian Finance Minister Arun Jaitley rose to present the Union Budget 2017 on Wednesday, Congress demanded that the House be adjourned and the Budget be postponed owing to the death of lawmaker E Ahamed.

Lok Sabha Opposition leader Mallikarjun Kharge urged Speaker Sumitra Mahajan to adjourn the House since Ahamed was a senior member of Parliament.

But the Speaker said the House will transact no business the day after.

Jaitley earlier tweeted ending the doubts that the budget could be postponed by a day following the death of Former Union Minister E Ahamed.

The budget  assumes significance as it will be the first one since the Union government's demonetisation move banning  old Rs 1000 and Rs. 500 currency notes to curb black money menace.
