Congress hits out at Centre over Modigate
"Bundle of lies, deceit and deception has marked the diversionary drama and smoke screens put up by Modi government in 'Modigate Scandal' to help Lalit Modi escape the clutches of Indian law and live a life of ultimate luxury," Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala said.
"Prime Minister, Narendra Modi maintained a studied silence on the reason for helping Indian fugitive Lalit Modi and his entire government apparatus including Foreign Minister, Sushma Swaraj as also Rajasthan Chief Minister, Vasundhara Raje brazenly helped Lalit Modi by asking UK authorities to grant him travel documents as also grant him permission to stay in UK instead of bringing him back to India to be prosecuted in accordance with Indian law for the money-laundering, havala and match-fixing operations estimated by Enforcement Director (ED) and Finance Ministry at over Rs.1,700 crore," he said.
He said the Modi government, including Finance Minister and Foreign Minister, has painstakingly attempted to bury 'Modigate Scandal' by asserting that deportation of Indian fugitive Lalit Modi was not possible.
"Modi government also refused to place in public domain various communications exchanged between the then Finance Minsiter, Shri P. Chidambaram with UK government for immediate deportation of Lalit Modi for being prosecuted in accordance with Indian law," the Congress leader said.
