Congress is hiding its failure behind EVMs: Narendra Modi
New Delhi , June 26 (IBNS): In a scathing attack on the Congress, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday charged the opposition party of not being able to digest their loss in the Lok Sabha elections and hiding their failure behind the EVMs.
Replying to the debate in the Rajya Sabha on the Motion of Thanks to the President’s address, the PM also slammed the Congress for saying that the country had lost in these elections and asserted that the loss of the grand-old party could not be the nation’s loss.
Accusing the Congress of obstructing the legislations in the Rajya Sabha over the last five years, he asked the grand-old party to indulge in introspection as people of the country had handed them a drubbing in the general elections for obstructing the developmental work of the BJP government over the last five years.
Charging the Congress with opposing his government’s initiatives, including ‘One nation One election’, he said the party continued to be filled with arrogance despite their loss in the elections.
On the Opposition blaming EVMs for their loss in state Assembly elections and the Lok sabha polls, the PM said that those putting blame on EVMs do so as they lack faith in themselves.
"We never questioned the election process. Only those who have lost elections, blame the EVMs. This will only demoralise your cadre," the Prime Minister said.
Pointing out that it was the Congress that introduced EVMs in the country, the PM wondered why were they now opposing the same EVMs.
"There was a time when headlines of newspapers after polling day would highlight booth capturing. But thanks to EVMs, we talk about increasing voting percentages,’’ Modi added.
He charged the Opposition with hiding their failure behind EVMs.
"There have been so many elections with EVMs and parties that are present in the Rajya Sabha have got opportunities to govern in different states after elections were held through EVMs. Then, why question EVMs today?" he said.
