Congress releases first list of candidates for Delhi polls
New Delhi, Jan 1 (IBNS): The Congress party on Thursday released its first list of candidates comprising of 24 names for the upcoming Delhi Assembly polls.
For the upcoming election, the party is repeating all its eight MLAs and 12 others who were runner-ups in the 2013 Assembly election.
According to the list, former Delhi minister Haroon Yusuf will be contesting from Ballimaran; Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) chief Arvinder Singh Lovely will contest from Gandhi Nagar; and Chaudhary Mateen Ahmed will stand from Seelampur.
On Nov 5, President Pranab Mukherjee dissolved the Delhi Assembly.
The development came after Union Cabinet ratified Delhi Lieutenant-Governor Najeeb Jung's recommendation to dissolve the assembly and begin the process for election.
It is noteworthy to mention that BJP was the single largest party in the Delhi elections held last December, but didn't have a majority.
After it said no to forming government, the Congress helped install an AAP government with Kejriwal as Chief Minister last year.
The Government fell in February after Kejriwal resigned as CM. Following the development, Delhi is under President's rule.
