Toronto/IBNS:  Consulate General of India Toronto organized the 'Varishtha Yoddha’ event on Sunday in celebration of 75 years of India’s independence as ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’ in honour of veterans of the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force.

A total of 87 veterans above the age of seventy-five years were felicitated in recognition of their invaluable service to the nation during the event.

A written message from Defence Minister Rajnath Singh was read out by Consul General Apoorva Srivastava during the event.

High Commissioner of India to Canada Ajay Bisaria and India's Defence Attaché to US and Canada based in Washington, Brig. Anoop Shinghal were also present at the felicitation ceremony.

The felicitation event also consisted of various cultural performances and some experiences shared by some of the veterans.

Due to the pandemic situation and the restrictions at large gatherings, only the veterans and their family members were invited and the event was live-streamed on CGI Toronto’s ‘Facebook’ and ‘Youtube’ pages for the Diaspora members.
